Paving Continues Next Week; Update on Soundwall Pattern Alignment

Paving Activities Continue through Next Week: Expect Nightly Lane Closures and Reductions

Milling, paving and striping of the northbound lanes of Pyramid Highway between Queen Way and Los Altos Parkway will continue through Friday, May 10. Crews will be working 24-hours-a-day, Sunday - Friday, with paving and traffic impacts occurring at night.

Drivers can expect the following:

  • Increased truck traffic through the work zone, please be patient and drive with caution

  • Traffic reduced to a single lane in each direction nightly: Northbound between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m., Southbound between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.

  • Two lanes of traffic will remain open during the daytime hours

Drivers can also expect intermittent nighttime intersection closures at Disc Drive, Shoppers Way and Los Altos Parkway, with detours available.

Disc Drive Intersection Closure: 5/5 and 5/6

Los Altos Parkway Intersection Closure: 5/7

Closures of Disc Drive access to/from Pyramid Highway occurring at night from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Traffic will detour to Los Altos Parkway to Sparks Boulevard to Disc Drive.

Project Landscaping & Aesthetics:

Soundwall Pattern Alignment

Did you know that highway landscaping and aesthetics can promote community identity and provide tangible benefits, including dust, sound, and erosion reduction?

The soundwalls being installed as part of the project reflect Pyramid Lake’s rich biodiversity. The walls help reduce roadway noise in adjacent neighborhoods, and are one part of roadside landscaping which will help reduce erosion, further highlight the community’s natural history and more.

We have heard the community feedback regarding wave pattern alignment on walls being installed on the east side of the highway. The feedback is vitally important to us. There was an unforeseen change in the intended sequential pattern of the wall panels. While all design elements remained intact, this resulted in a reverse pattern, with waves proceeding essentially up in elevation instead of downhill.

After careful consideration, the project team made the decision to keep the project within budget and on schedule by making a design adjustment and moving forward with construction.

Wall construction is not yet complete. More walls will be completed to fully represent the design. Painting and decorative rock will complete the areas for a more finished look.

When completed, multiple sequential wall panels will have a traditional wave pattern, with periodic wave breaks. These intermittent breaks can add an abstract quality to the artwork.

We will continue to thoroughly evaluate options to further visually blend aesthetics on the soundwalls.

You’ll see more construction coming soon to complete Pyramid Highway soundwall aesthetics!
